The Super Eagles of Nigeria opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Madagascar at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Uyo on Saturday evening.
Chelle sets the tone
Head coach Eric Chelle fielded an experimental side for the opening match and it showed, with three debuntants starting the game.
Nigeria went behind after 25 minutes, but a goal inside the first half restored parity before a second-half strike from a debutant sealed the win.
Player of the match
Man of the match honours went to the young winger who forced a decisive penalty with a burst of pace down the left.
What next
The Super Eagles travel away for their next qualifier in October, with Chelle likely to field a stronger starting XI.
